Cisco Nexus® 9000 series switches operate in one of two modes: Cisco Application-Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI™) mode or Cisco NX-OS mode. In Cisco ACI mode, these switches provide a policy-based, turnkey, fully automated architecture for designing and managing data center switching matrices. In Cisco NX-OS mode, these switches can use basic Layer 2/3 technology as well as some modern technologies. Examples include VXLAN, segmented routing, multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), and automation via NX-API for the Border Gateway Protocol Ethernet VPN (BGP EVPN) control plane.
